Building the Office: Nearly there!

19th July 2010 | 5 comments

We ordered all the parts separately with the intention of building the computers up. We built them (after being scared that we hadn't ordered the right number of SATA cables and 6-pin connectors!) and managed to install windows 7 on the computers where one of the computers went off!

(Below is an overview of the office. We have yet to build the oak-paneled windows which will light up the room a great deal - and we need to fix the computer chair to the right (a screw has come loose making it unsafe), because, as you can see, I'm using a stool!) Overview

After much tinkering, it was worked out that we had been sent a faulty video card by Novatech. We sent an email to them to ask for a return and we will document the results as they arise on here, whether their customer support is fair and any other problems that may crop up regarding the card.

Elliotts Desk

The setups are brilliant. With 3.4GHz Quad Core AMD processors, HD 5750's, 4GB Ram in each, there's not really much of a shortage regarding power! My computer that had the faulty video card is currently being powered by a 4870 from my computer at home and from the quieter office atmosphere it can be determined that it is the noisiest card on the planet!

As I do more design than anything else, it was decided that I have E-IPS screens (Dell 2209WA) and Elliott have normal, lower quality TN panels as he doesn't need to work with colour. The screens are excellent. You can swivel them round to make them portrait and pretty much turn and tilt them to any angle you want - something you won't find on most monitors! In addition to this, I also have the Wacom Intous 4 tablet. Again, a beautiful piece of technology and rather quite amazing to look at!

Adams Desk

As soon as we can get the serial numbers for the Adobe software, we will be able to begin work! (The Adobe software requires you to prove that you are a student before using it). Until then, see you!
